Uniform Mitigation Verification Inspection Form: Version Update
May 29, 2007
The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) released its most recent draft of the Uniform Mitigation Verification Inspection Form (OIR-B1-1802). Â
This updated version is enclosed for your review.
Although similar to its former version, this new draft states that mitigation inspections must be performed by a “qualified inspector.” It also includes a checklist for “Gable End Bracing” and “Wall Construction Type.”
The Uniform Mitigation Verification Inspection Form is intended to provide a means for verifying that policyholders may qualify for some type of wind mitigation credit on their property insurance. The form provides a checklist of strengthening standards that homeowners may implement to safeguard their homes against high winds. A homeowner is then qualified for lower property insurance premiums based on the expected damage mitigation effect of the installed strengthening standards.
Mitigation recommendations include storm-hardening of roofs, windows and other openings, as well as shutter installation.
Please do not hesitate to contact this office regarding this matter should you have any questions or comments.
