THE NEWS SERVICE OF FLORIDA: Textbooks for six or eight years
Mar 26, 2009
In rolling out a potential budget for the Pre-K-12 system, Sen. Stephen Wise, R-Jacksonville, said the committee may examine changing the textbook buying cycle from six years to eight years in hopes of saving money.
The proposal drew immediate criticism from the textbook industry. “I don’t know if you’ve seen books brought home for homework, but they tend to deteriorate after 6 years,” said Bob Boyd, a lobbyist for the Association of American Publishers.
Wise said it was clear that more discussions would have to take place on the issue.
