THE NEWS SERVICE OF FLORIDA: Alonzo Mourning lobbying for kidney failure coverage
Mar 10, 2009
Former Miami Heat basketball player Alonzo Mourning is in the Capitol today, pushing for legislation that would allow kidney failure patients access to additional insurance.
The legislation (SB 1022, HB 675), sponsored by Sen. Thad Altman, R-Melbourne, and Rep. Ritch Workman, R-Melbourne, would allow patients over 65 to buy Medigap coverage assistance instead of paying for treatments not covered by Medicare out of pocket. Backers say the plan would allow 2,000 patients to access needed treatment.
