The Insurance Division of the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance (“Division”) has announced changes that will soon take place regarding public viewing of System of Electronic Rate and Form Filings (“SERFF”).

In the near future, the Division will enable online public viewing of SERFF filings.  All current filings received through SERFF are now enabled for public viewing upon receipt.  The Division, with the assistance of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ technical support, has been able to convert filings made from 1/1/2000 to present for public viewing.

Please be reminded that a Commissioner’s Bulletin dated 12/13/2004 cautioned carriers not to make confidential filings via SERFF.  If your company submitted a filing via SERFF after 1/1/2005 containing a credit model that may be considered confidential under the provisions of TCA 56-5-405, the Division has asked that you send them a ‘Note to Filer’.

Requests that a filing or a portion thereof be withheld from public view will be granted in accordance with the law on a case by case basis.

To view a filing made via SERFF in Tennessee, one will continue to need an appointment with the Insurance Division.   SERFF filings may be viewed online at the Division’s office location in Nashville, TN.

This revision, when enabled, will allow Tennessee to remove the 100 page limitation that currently exists in SERFF, as filings will be stored electronically versus paper.Â
