Surplus Lines Not Subject To Citizens Assessment

Citizens Assessment Clarification

The Informational Memorandum OIR-07-02M issued by the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation on January 11, 2007 provides for the collection of Citizens Property Insurance Corporation’s emergency assessment, commencing on July 1, 2007.  It also indicates that surplus lines insureds are subject to the emergency assessment.

Florida Surplus Lines Service Office (“FSLSO”) is to provide a timely and appropriate notice when Citizens assessments will begin again.

The purpose of this bulletin is to clarify that there will not be an emergency assessment effective July 1, 2007 for surplus lines insureds.

FSLSO collected sufficient funds under the regular Citizens assessment in 2006 to cover the 2007 emergency assessment and possibly the emergency assessment for 2008.

Please reference Bulletin 2007-001 issued by the FSLSO for additional information, which can be found by clicking here.

Should you have any comments or questions, please do not hesitate to contact this office.
