More than 70% of flood losses* in Florida are caused by coastal flooding from hurricanes and tropical storms; there is great potential for loss even compared to other well-known storm surge-exposed locations. For example, RMS estimates that the 100-year storm surge heights in Tampa are over 14 feet high in places (see graphic).
RMS’s hurricane model suite uniquely integrates a fully dynamic, numerical storm surge model, enabling a more accurate understanding of storm surge risk to manage and underwrite coastal flood risk with confidence.
