State of Florida Files Suit Against Digital Domain to Recoup Economic Incentives, Governor Rick Scott Announces
Jul 22, 2014
Peter Antonacci, General Counsel for the Office of Florida Governor Rick Scott, announced today, July 22, 2014, that the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity has filed a lawsuit against Digital Domain Media Group and related parties seeking to recoup millions of dollars of economic incentives that the lawsuit alleges were ” . . . fraudulently gained through false assurances, material misrepresentation and an organized scheme to defraud the state of Florida.”
William R. Scherer of Conrad and Scherer will be handling the case for the State. The suit can be viewed HERE.
Mr. Antonacci said, “Today, the state has filed suit to recoup tens of millions of dollars of stolen taxpayer funds and we will do everything possible to recover the public funds stolen by Digital Domain.”
The Governor announced earlier this month that the State of Florida had retained outside legal counsel to identify any and all legal action available against the company and any other individuals involved in the collapse of the Digital Domain project.
A March 2013 Inspector General Report revealed the usual state regulatory processes were circumvented to give Digital Domain economic incentives.
