Sansom Makes Initial House Leadership Appointments
Florida House Speaker-designate Ray Sansom today, September 9, 2008, sent the following email correspondence to all House members:
Fellow members:
I hope that you and your families had a good summer. As we prepare for the 2009 legislative session, I want to share an announcement about the beginning of our leadership team and alert you to some important dates for the months ahead.
Leadership and Council/Committee Assignments
We are serving at an exceptionally challenging time. I am confident, though, that we will have a leadership team with the experience, judgment and work ethic to give Floridians the good government they deserve.Â
The following members have agreed to serve in the positions listed below:
- Speaker Pro Tempore: Rep. Larry Cretul
- Chair of the Rules and Calendar Council: Rep. Bill Galvano
- Vice Chair of the Rules and Calendar Council: Rep. Ellyn Bogdanoff
- Majority Leader: Rep. Adam Hasner
- Deputy Majority Leader: Rep. Anitere Flores
- Majority Whip and Floor Leader: Rep. Ron Reagan
Six Deputy Majority Floor Leaders will be appointed at a later date.
In addition to serving in these positions, some of these members may also provide leadership in other committees or councils.
Many of you have contacted me about council/committee assignments. I intend to speak with each of you individually after the November elections to discuss your interests and the needs of the House. Final decisions on council/committee assignments will be announced after the organization session.
Dates to Remember
As you plan your schedules, keep in mind the following dates:
November 12-14 New Member Training
November 18 Organization Session
Please note that we will likely have interim committee meetings concerning the budget during the week of December 15th. In addition, with the exception of the week of the presidential inauguration, please plan for interim committee meetings throughout the period from mid-January until the week before the opening of the 2009 session.
It is an honor to serve with each of you, and I look forward to a year of productive work on behalf of the people of Florida.
