Session Activities for Monday, April 30, 2007
Apr 30, 2007
Among the bills taken up during today’s Legislative Session, April 30, 2007, the House and Senate considered the Hurricane Damage Mitigation bill (Senate Bill 1864) and House Bill 7169, a bill relating to the Workers’ Compensation Joint Underwriting Association. Below is a brief summary of the activities on those bills:
SB 1864 by Senator Bill Posey relating to Hurricane Damage Mitigation was read a second time before the full Senate and several amendments were adopted. An amendment by Senator Rhonda Storms passed that significantly changed the intent of the bill. The bill must be read a third time before the Senate can vote on the bill. It is unclear whether the Senate will consider this bill on third reading.
HB 7169 by the Jobs and Entrepreneurship Council and Representative Ron Reagan passed the full House. The bill creates an exemption for certain records such as underwriting files, claims files and medical records as well as portions of meetings of the Florida Workers’ Compensation Joint Underwriting Association, Inc. (FWCJUA). The bill is now available for the Senate’s consideration.
Also, attached is a document that includes today’s bills that passed the House and those bills that passed the Senate.
The House bills now move to the Senate and the Senate bills to the House where they may or may not be considered.
The bills must pass each chamber with identical language before they can be submitted to the Governor for his signature.
