Senate Omnibus Property Bill Temporarily Postponed After Unfriendly Amendments; Future Unclear

Apr 22, 2010

SB 2044, the Florida Senate’s version of the omnibus property insurance bill, was temporarily postponed today, April 22, 2010, after the Senate adopted two amendments sponsored by Senator Ronda Storms.

The amendments, which were described by SB 2044’s original sponsor, Senator Garrett Richter, as “unfriendly,” changed provisions in the bill relating to payments of replacement costs and the amount of time in which insurers and banks could tender payment to policyholders.  It is unclear at this time when, or if SB 2044 will be heard again.

A summary of amendments filed to SB 2044 is forthcoming.
