Senate, House Omnibus Property Insurance Legislation Now Nearly Identical After 72-44 House Vote on SB 2044
Apr 29, 2010
The Florida House of Representatives passed a version of SB 2044 yesterday, April 28, 2010, that was nearly identical to the one passed by the Senate on April 23. The lone difference between the versions is an amendment adopted by the House that requires insurance company chief executive officers to certify supplemental rate filings. SB 2044 was passed unamended on third reading yesterday by a vote of 72 to 44.
The outcome of SB 2044 is not final. The Senate is expected to take up the bill today, April 29, and either pass or amend it. If SB 2044 is amended, it will be returned to the House for consideration before it can be sent to the Governor. To view the updated version of SB 2044, click here.
Also passed unanimously on third reading by the House yesterday, SB 2176 exempts certain commercial lines from rate filing requirements. As amended, the bill now addresses workers’ compensation claims for law enforcement officers, Medicare supplement insurers, motor vehicle service agreements and specialty insurers. SB 2176 now returns to the Senate for its consideration. To view complete bill and amendment information on SB 2176, click here.
