School Board of Broward County Elects Laurie Rich Levinson Chair; Patricia Good, Vice Chair

The School Board of Broward County issued the following news release today, November 20, 2012 on the election of Laurie Rich Levinson and Patricia Good as board chairman and vice chairman:

School Board Elects Laurie Rich Levinson Chair;  Patricia Good, Vice Chair

The School Board of Broward County, Florida has elected Laurie Rich Levinson (District 6) Chair and Patricia Good  (District 2) Vice Chair.  The nominations and voting took place during the School Board Organizational Meeting held today (Tuesday, November 20, 2012) following the swearing-in ceremony for two newly elected and four re-elected Board members.

Laurie Rich Levinson, a South Florida native, was elected to the Board in 2010 and previously served as the Board’s vice chair. She represents the School Board on the Council of Great City Schools, the Take Stock in Children Leadership Council, the Interlocal Agreement Oversight Committee, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, the Museum of Discovery and Science Board and serves as a Federal Legislative Liaison Representative.  Rich Levinson also serves as an alternate State Legislative Liaison Representative and is a member of the Partners In Education Board.

Patricia Good, elected to the Board in 2010 and reelected unopposed this year was born in Havana, Cuba.  She serves as the School Board representative on the Oversight Committee, Broward County Planning Council and Executive Board, Broward County Land Use/Trafficways Committee and the Broward County Parks and Open Space Task Force.  She is an alternate member of the Broward Cultural Council, the Broward County Commission on Substance Abuse and Take Stock in Children Leadership Council.  Good is an active participant in the Broward League of Cities, Greater Florida Consortium of School Boards, Latin Chamber of Commerce of Broward County and the Miramar/Pembroke Pines Chamber of Commerce.  She is also a graduate of the Good Government Initiative Program.

The Board’s Organizational Meeting took place at the Kathleen C. Wright Administration Center following a morning swearing-in ceremony held at the Dillard Center for the Arts in Fort Lauderdale. New Board members sworn-in were Abby M. Freedman (District 4) and Dr. Rosalind Osgood (District 5). Re-elected Board members sworn-in were Robin Bartleman (At-large, Seat 9); Patricia Good (District 2); Donna R. Korn (At-large, Seat 8) and Katherine M. Leach (District 3).  Other Board members include: Laurie Rich Levinson (District 6), Ann Murray (District 1) and Nora Rupert (District 7).
