Rick Scott Advocates a More Open and Competitive Florida Insurance Market

Addressing Florida property insurance and tort reform in a town hall meeting today, September 20, 2010, Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Scott released a plan advocating a more open and competitive private property insurance market, including “consumer choice” with regard to rates, as an important solution to Florida’s insurance market challenges. Mr. Scott also promoted the need to return Citizens Property Insurance Corporation to its previous position as an insurer of last resort.
According to the Sunshine State News, Mr. Scott also called for a 19 percent cut in state property taxes at today’s meeting.
