Rep. Klein To Provide National Catastrophe Fund Update in Tallahassee
Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Ron Klein (D-FL) will provide a legislative update on the status of his national catastrophe insurance bill on Thursday, March 20, 2008 in Tallahassee. Klein’s legislation, the Homeowners’ Defense Act of 2007, passed the House of Representatives on November 8, 2007 and is currently pending in the U.S. Senate.
Klein will discuss how to move forward legislatively in light of his recent meeting with Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT), Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, which has jurisdiction over the insurance bill in the Senate.
Klein is in Tallahassee for a Florida State Senate reunion. He served in the Florida State Senate and State House for more than a decade, and made homeowners’ insurance a key priority. In his final term as a state Senator, Klein fought for legislation to address catastrophe insurance at the state level. In his first term in Congress, Klein has achieved unprecedented success in bringing the fight for Florida’s homeowners to the federal level by passing the first ever national catastrophe bill through the U.S. House of Representatives.
