Recap: The Financial Impacts Of Climate Change For Florida

On November 14, 2007, a member of this Firm attended a workshop hosted by Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink and Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services Charles Bronson on climate change.  This workshop focused on the financial aspects of climate change, with national and international experts discussing the impact of climate change on the insurance and financial industries.  Specifically, the panelists discussed:

• The links between climate change and insurance;

• Investment opportunities in emerging markets as the clean energy and green technology sectors grow; and

• Climate risk disclosure for investors.

The following three individuals made presentations at this workshop:

• Mindy Lubber, President of Ceres, gave a presentation titled “Climate Risk & Opportunity in the Business Community”

• Lewis Milford, President of the Clean Energy States Alliance, gave a presentation titled “State Clean Energy Funds, An Overview of Best Programs and What Florida Can Do”

• Dr. Robert Muir-Wood, Chief Research Officer of Risk Management Solutions, gave a presentation titled “Rising Hazards & Reducing Risk Costs for Florida”
