RECAP: Insurance-Related Legislative Action–Monday, April 27

As of Monday, April 27, the following bills were acted upon by the Florida Legislature:

 

Florida Senate Session

The Florida Senate held Session on Monday, April 27, during which it discussed the following insurance-related bills:

  • CS/CS/1st ENG SB 714 by the Senate Committee on General Government Appropriations and State Senator Dennis Jones (R-Seminole)
    • Update:  CS/CS/1st ENG SB 714 PASSED the Senate (38Y-0N) and has been placed on the House Special Order Calendar for April 28.  To view the most recent bill analysis, click here.
  • CS/CS/1st ENG SB 1950 relating to Property Insurance by the Senate Policy and Steering Committee on Ways and Means and State Senator Garrett Richter (R-Naples)
    • Update:  CS/CS/1st ENG SB 1950 was read a second time on Special Order in the Senate, during which 12 amendments were adopted and two amendments failed.  The bill now awaits a third reading.  To view the most recent bill analysis, click here.
  • CS/CS/SB 1310 relating to Tax Credits/Nonprofit Scholarship-Funding Organizations by the Senate Committee on Finance and Tax and State Senator Andy Gardiner (R-Orlando)
    • Update:  CS/CS/CS SB 1310 was read a second time on Special Order in the Senate, during which CS/CS/CS SB 1310 was substituted by CS/CS/HB 453 and has been laid on the table.  This bill is now dead.
  • CS/CS/CS/SB 1138 relating to Self-Insurance Funds by the Senate Policy and Steering Committee on Ways and Means and State Senator Don Gaetz (R-Fort Walton Beach)
    • Update:  CS/CS/CS/SB 1138 was temporarily postponed on second reading and has been placed on the Senate Special Order Calendar for April 28.  To view the most recent bill analysis, click here.
  • CS/CS/SB 2072 relating to Workers’ Compensation by the Senate Committee on General Government Appropriations and State Senator Garrett Richter (R-Naples)
    • Update:  CS/CS/SB 2072 was temporarily postponed on second reading and has been placed on the Senate Special Order Calendar for April 28.  To view the most recent bill analysis, click here.
  • CS/SB 2036 relating to Residential Property Insurance by the Senate Committee on Banking and Insurance and State Senator Mike Bennett (R-Bradenton)
    • Update:  CS/SB 2036 was temporarily postponed on second reading and has been placed on the Senate Special Order Calendar for April 28.  To view the most recent bill analysis, click here.
  • CS/CS/1st ENG SB 1894 relating to Surplus Lines Insurers by the Senate Committee on Finance and Tax and State Senator Mike Bennett (R-Bradenton)

Florida House of Representatives Session

The Florida House held Session on Monday, April 27, during which it discussed the following insurance-related bills:

  • HB 1175 relating to Recovery, Towing and Storage of Vehicles by State Representative Clay Ford (R-Pensacola)
    • Update:  HB 1175 PASSED the House (114Y-0N) and now is in Senate Messages.  To view the most recent bill analysis, click here.
  • CS/CS/CS/HB 569 relating to Financial Instruments by the House Finance and Tax Council and State Representative Kenneth Roberson (R-Port Charlotte)
    • Update:  CS/CS/CS/HB 569, to which one amendment was adopted on third reading, PASSED the House (116Y-0N) and now is in Senate Messages.  To view the most recent bill analysis, click here.
  • CS/HB 853 relating to Surplus Lines Insurers by the House General Government Policy Council and State Representative Pat Patterson (R-DeLand)
