Proposed Update to Medicare Supplement Insurance Rules Adopts NAIC Model Regulation Revisions

The Florida Department of Financial Services (“DFS”), Office of Insurance Regulation (“OIR”) has issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking regarding proposed amendments to Rules contained in Chapter 69O-156.003 relating to Medicare Supplement Insurance.  To view the Notice, click here.

The proposed Rules allow for new product generation by adopting revisions made on September 24, 2008 to a National Association of Insurance Commissioners (“NAIC”) Model Regulation that implements the NAIC Medicare Supplement Insurance Minimum Standards Model Act.  The revisions include major changes to Medicare Supplement plans, along with benefits first approved by the NAIC in March 2007 and subsequently authorized by the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (“MIPPA”). Changes required by the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (“GINA”) also were adopted.

If a Rule Development Workshop is requested in writing and not deemed unnecessary by the agency head, one will be held at the date, time, and place shown below:
