Sheriff’s Office: Fake insurance adjuster arrested on fraud charge
By Julius Whigham II
A suburban Boynton Beach man was arrested Tuesday on charges that he fraudulently represented himself as an insurance claims adjuster, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said.
Vicenezo Gurrera, 42, was arrested on four counts of transacting insurance without a license.
Gurrera, an employee at the Collision World auto body shop in Boynton Beach, allegedly engaged in fraudulent insurance activities on four occasions from August 2011 to this past March. He was charged after a joint investigation between the sheriff’s office and the Florida Department of Financial Services Division of Insurance Fraud.
According to arrest reports, Gurrera went to homes of persons who had been involved in vehicle accidents and presented himself as an adjuster. He asked the crash victims to sign forms to process their claims. In at least one instance he had a policyholder sign forms that would release her husband’s vehicle from a towing company to the body shop.
He was booked into Palm Beach County jail Tuesday afternoon and later released on $12,000 bond, jail records show.
