OIR Rule Development Workshop Recap: Health Rate Filings

On June 18, 2007, this office attended a Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (“OIR”) Rule Development Workshop regarding Proposed Rule 690-149.003, .004, .005, .007 entitled “Health Rate Filings.” 

The purpose of the Proposed Rule is to provide guidelines to ensure that health insurance rates charged are reasonable. 

The Proposed Rule amends the following sections of Florida Administrative Code:

69O-149.003: Rate Filing Procedures
69O-149.004: Experience Records
69O-149.005: Reasonableness of Benefits in Relation to Premiums
69O-149.007: Annual Rate Certification (ARC) Filing Procedures  

OIR Attorney Bob Prentice presided over the Workshop.  At the conclusion of the hearing, Mr. Prentice stated that the Rule record will remain open for 21 days for interested parties to provide written comments.
