VIERA—Brevard is ready for the hurricane season starting June 1, Brevard County’s top emergency manager told county commissioners this morning.
“We had a little practice here recently with the wildfires,” said Bob Lay, director of the Emergency Management Office.
Lay said all agencies and cities are in compliance with national standards.
He cited several areas of potential concern: the number of boats in the Indian River Lagoon that could become derelict; traffic issues due to ongoing construction on Interstate 95 and the lack of a direct connection to the interstate from the Pineda Causeway; and a need for more trained Red Cross volunteers.
