No Florida Appointees to 112th Congress U.S. House Financial Services Insurance, Housing and Community Opportunity Subcommittee

Florida’s Congressional delegation is not represented among the appointees to the 112th Congress U.S. House Financial Services Subcommittee on Insurance, Housing and Community Opportunity (“Insurance Subcommittee”) announced this week (January 17-21).
The Insurance Subcommittee will be chaired by U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL) and vice chaired by Representative Robert Hurt (R-VA).

For the 112th Congress, House Financial Services Committee Chairman Spencer Bachus (R-AL) has indicated that his priority is to end the “bailout” of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and the concept of “too big to fail” as espoused by The Dodd-Frank Act of 2010.
The House Financial Services Committee has jurisdiction over all issues pertaining to the U.S. economy, banking system, housing, insurance, and securities and exchanges. Additionally, the Committee also has jurisdiction over monetary policy, international finance, international monetary organizations and efforts to combat terrorist financing.
Agencies under oversight by the House Financial Services Committee include the U.S. Federal Reserve, U.S. Treasury, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Securities and Exchange Commission, National Credit Union Administration, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Department of Housing and Urban Development, Federal Housing Finance Agency and the Export-Import Bank.
As of today, January 20, 2011, overall membership of the House Financial Services Committee has not yet been finalized.
