New Citizens head slated to meet top Florida pols
By Brent Kallestad
New Citizens Property Insurance chief Barry Gilway will meet with Gov. Rick Scott and the Cabinet for the first time.
The 66-year-old British-born insurance executive was named earlier this month to take over the state-backed insurer which has struggled to downsize to a point that it can be a true insurer of last resort without at the same time carrying an unaffordable risk to its customers. Citizens’ has more than 1.4 million customers, many who have businesses or homes in some of the most high-risk areas of the state.
Gilway has spent some four decades in the private sector in virtually all facets of the insurance industry and was chosen over Gov. Scott’s interim choice to run Citizens.
Tuesday’s meeting was still a go despite Tropical Storm Debby.
