NCOIL Takes Action on Life Settlements, PEOs, Guaranty Funds, and Health Reform at Annual Meeting

Attached, please find information regarding legislative action at the recent National Conference of Insurance Legislators (“NCOIL”) November 14 through 18 Annual Meeting.

Lawmakers adopted, among other things:

•         an amended NCOIL life settlements model act that targets illegal STOLI transactions

•         a professional employer organization (“PEO”) model law regarding accountability in workers’ compensation rating

•         a comprehensive property-casualty guaranty fund model act that helps state laws keep pace with today’s market

•         a resolution endorsing H.R. 506, a federal bill to promote state-based health innovation

NCOIL is an organization of state legislators interested in insurance legislation and regulation.  Many legislators active in NCOIL either chair or are members of the committees responsible for insurance legislation in their respective state houses across the country.  More information is available at www.ncoil.org.
