Nancy Grodin Named Deputy Maryland Insurance Commissioner

Maryland Insurance Commissioner Therese M. Goldsmith announced the appointment of Ms. Nancy Grodin as Deputy Insurance Commissioner, effective today, July 1, 2014. As Deputy Commissioner, Ms. Grodin will oversee day-to-day operations of the Maryland Insurance Administration (“MIA”).
Appointed as Associate Deputy Commissioner in October 2012, she served as the MIA’s designated hearing officer for quasi-judicial hearings. Prior to being named to that position, Ms. Grodin led the agency’s regulatory oversight of domestic and foreign insurance companies, insurance producers, title agents, public adjusters and bail bonds as Associate Commissioner of Compliance and Enforcement.
“Nancy is an integral part of the Maryland Insurance Administration, and I am pleased to announce her promotion,” Commissioner Goldsmith said. “She brings tremendous experience, talent, and a commitment to public service.”
Before joining the MIA, Ms. Grodin served in various positions with UnitedHealthcare of the Mid-Atlantic Inc., Mid-Atlantic Medical Services Inc., Chesapeake Health Plan and PHH Group. She also served as a judicial law clerk on the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland and practiced both insurance and intellectual property law at the Baltimore-based firm formerly known as Weinberg & Green.
Ms. Grodin holds a Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry from Goucher College, and a Master’s of Business Administration and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Baltimore. She is admitted to the Court of Appeals of Maryland and licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
