NAIC Life Risk-Based Capital Working Group Meeting Report: January 7

On Tuesday, January 7, 2009, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (“NAIC”) Life Risk-Based Capital Working Group (“Working Group”) held a meeting to discuss a risk-based capital form completion guidance memorandum.
At the NAIC’s Winter 2008 National Meeting, regulators expressed concern regarding the treatment of collateral for derivative instruments in the life risk-based capital formula. To address this issue, the Working Group was tasked with providing guidance for insurers on the completion of Form LR012: Miscellaneous Assets, which is to be submitted to the NAIC by insurance companies as part of their Year-End 2008 Life Risk-Based Capital Report.
After discussion on the best method to make risk-based capital charge calculations more balanced on the form, the Working Group released the following documents for comment:

The next Working Group meeting is scheduled to be held on Thursday, January 15, starting at 3:30 p.m.
