NAIC Health Care Regulatory Framework Task Force June 14 Meeting Materials

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (“NAIC”) Regulatory Framework Task Force will meet on Sunday, June 14 during the NAIC’s 2009 Summer National Meeting in Minneapolis. 

The Regulatory Framework Task Force, which is part of the NAIC’s Health Insurance and Managed Care Committee, is charged with developing NAIC model acts and regulations for state health care initiatives, as well as with the consideration of policy issues affecting state health insurance regulation. 

Items scheduled to be discussed as part of the June 14 meeting include:

  • The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996
    • Representatives from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and United States Department of Labor have been invited to discuss related issues.

  • Revisions to NAIC Models Related to the Genetic Information and Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 and State Children’s Health Insurance Program
  • 2009 Task Force Charge Under New Objectives and Goals
    • The new Task Force charge is to “Review issues concerning the standardization of forms practices and procedures in health insurance underwriting with respect to regulatory modernization that promotes administrative efficiency and the reduction of associated costs.”
  • A Report from the NAIC Employee Retirement Income Security Act Subgroup for Adoption
