Medicare Supplement Insurance July 15 Rule Hearing Canceled

Jul 15, 2009

The Florida Department of Insurance Regulation (“OIR”) Rule Hearing on proposed amendments to Rules contained in Chapter 69O-156 relating to Medicare Supplement Insurance that was scheduled for today, July 15, 2009, was not held because it was not requested.

Proposed amendments would update the existing Rule Chapter to allow for new product generation by adopting 2008 revisions to a National Association of Insurance Commissioners (“NAIC”) Model Regulation that implements the NAIC Medicare Supplement Insurance Minimum Standards Model Act.

The 2008 NAIC Model Regulation revisions include major changes to Medicare Supplement plans, along with benefits first approved by the NAIC in March 2007 and subsequently authorized by the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (“MIPPA”).  Additional revisions containing changes required by the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (“GINA”) also were adopted to the 2008 Model.

The meeting notice and proposed Rule Chapter are available by clicking here.
