Maryland Department of Insurance issues Consumer Advisory announcing January 2012 as open enrollment for child-only health insurance policies in Maryland

The Maryland Department of Insurance issued a consumer advisory today, November 28, 2011 announcing the month of January 2012 as open enrollment for child-only health insurance policies in Maryland. The consumer advisory is reprinted below.
January 2012 is open enrollment for child-only health insurance policies in Maryland
January 2012 is open enrollment for CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Mid-Atlantic States individual health insurance policies for children. During January, these two companies will offer policies for children age 18 and under with no exclusions for preexisting conditions. This is an opportunity for those families that do not have access to family policies to find coverage for their children.
If an application is received by one of these companies on or before January 15, 2012, the policy will be effective February 1, 2012. If the application is received between January 16, 2012 and January 31, 2012, coverage may be delayed until February 16, 2012. The next open enrollment period will not take place until July 2012.
