Maine Superintendent of Insurance Mila Kofman Announces Departure
AUGUSTA, MAINE – Commissioner Anne Head announced today that Superintendent of Insurance Mila Kofman will leave her position as Superintendent of the Maine Bureau of Insurance effective June 1, 2011.
“Under Mila’s leadership, Maine has moved up in the ranks for affordable homeowners’ and auto insurance rates,” said Commissioner Head. “We appreciate Superintendent Kofman’s dedication to the work of the Bureau of Insurance and her hard work to ensure that Maine’s insurance regulation protects Maine citizens. Speaking on behalf of the Department, we wish Superintendent Kofman all the best in her future endeavors.”
“It has been a privilege and a great honor to have been able to serve Maine’s businesses and people since March of 2008,” said Kofman. “Over the last three years, my top priorities have been to increase efficiency, accountability and transparency. I am extremely proud of the work the Bureau of Insurance Team has done to improve services to the regulated community and to improve protections for Maine’s consumers.”
Kofman has served as Superintendent of Insurance since March 2008. During her tenure, Maine’s rate review process has become a national model. She realigned resources to create an effective market examination unit and enforcement, cleared form and licensing backlogs, and improved consumer services without increasing staff.
Prior to state service, Kofman was on faculty at Georgetown University and prior to that, served as a federal regulator at the U.S. Department of Labor.
