Louisiana Department of Insurance Providing Support in Pending Regulatory Transitions
Feb 11, 2010
Assistance Available for Louisiana Producer Appointment and Termination Electronic Submission Transition
Subsequent to issuing Bulletin 09-10, which establishes requirements for the electronic submission of producer appointments and terminations, the Louisiana Department of Insurance (“LDOI”) has indicated that it will work with smaller domestic companies in ensuring a smooth transition into the new process. Bulletin 09-10, which can be viewed by clicking here, is designed to reduce LDOI paperwork administration.
According to Bulletin 09-10, any appointments or terminations received by the LDOI in paper form after January 1, 2010 will be returned unprocessed to the applicant. However, an exception will be made for those companies that annually appoint or terminate 15 or fewer producers. Companies having any difficulty meeting the requirements of Bulletin 09-10 should contact the LDOI Director of Producer Licensing at (225) 342-0860.
New Louisiana Producer/Adjuster Fingerprinting Requirements On Hold Until Further Notice
LDOI officials have also indicated that, although the passage of Act 485 requires all new resident producers and adjusters to be fingerprinted as part of license application requirements effective January 1, 2010, it will be several months before a linking system between Louisiana police and statewide sheriffs’ offices is in place. Therefore, new agents are directed to proceed through the usual LDOI licensing procedure. Once the system is integrated, the LDOI will issue a notice to all newly licensed agents advising that they have 30 days in which to obtain the requisite fingerprinting.
