The Louisiana Department of Insurance 2007 Legislative Package is outlined below for your review.

Please note that Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco and Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon jointly support the last five bills listed.

Louisiana’s Legislature convenes its regular Legislative Session at noon on Monday, April 30, 2007; the final adjournment is no later than 6:00 pm on Thursday, June 28, 2007.

Louisiana Department of Insurance 2007 Legislative Package

 

HB 381 – Rep. Bowler.  Provides that an insurance policy may not limit the insured’s right of action against the insurer to a period of less than two years.

HB 472 – Rep. Morrish.  Provides relative to the recoupment of Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corporation assessments and deletes its credit schedules under the Coastal and FAIR plans.

HB 483 – Rep. Tucker.  Authorizes the Commissioner of Insurance to adopt rules to protect military personnel in insurance matters.

HB 481 – Rep. Carter.  Provides for an annual financial regulation fee along with payment of any expenses associated with an examination or investigation.

HB 499 – Rep. Carter.  Provides for fees collected by the Commissioner of Insurance.

HB 544 – Rep. Carter.  Provides for the imposition of an additional premium tax, creation of the Local License Tax Equalization Fund, and the repeal of the local government licensing tax.

HB 596 – Rep. Toomy.  Provides for the protection of innocent coinsureds and the effect of misrepresentation of an insured to an insurer.

HB 721 – Rep. McVea.  Provides with respect to exclusions from the definition of a third-party administrator.

HB 860 – Rep. Carter.  Abolishes the Insurance Rating Commission and establishes the Office of Consumer Advocacy within the Department of Insurance.

HB 558 – Rep. Salter.  Provides for premium discounts or other adjustments for compliance with building codes and for damage mitigation.

HB 678 – Rep. Carter.  Establishes the Insure Louisiana Incentive Program.

SB 153 – Sen. Dupre.  Provides for the depopulation of the Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corporation.

SB 204 – Sen. Cravins.  Provides for changes in homeowner insurance policy deductibles.

SB 205 – Sen. Cravins.  Creates an office of consumer advocacy in the Department of Insurance and for enforcement of a property insurance consumer’s bill of rights by the office.
