The Louisiana Legislature convenes on Monday, March 12, 2012 and adjourns no later than 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 4, 2012.

Louisiana 2012 Regular Legislative Session Information
Subject Matter: General in nature; however, no measure levying or authorizing a new STATE tax or by any statewide political subdivision whose boundaries are coterminous with the state, increasing an existing STATE tax or by any statewide political subdivision whose boundaries are coterminous with the state, or legislating with regard to STATE tax exemptions, exclusions, deductions, or credits shall be introduced or enacted.
Each member may prefile an unlimited number of local or special bills and may introduce up to five such bills that have not been prefiled. No member may introduce more than five bills which have not been prefiled whether it is fiscal, nonfiscal or local bills.
Dates of Session
- Convenes Noon, Monday, March 12, 2012; adjourns no later than 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 4, 2012
- Maximum 60 legislative days during an 85 calendar day period
Constitutional Amendments
Must be PREFILED by Thursday, March 1 in the Senate. (House will accept until noon Friday, March 2.)
Bills
Must be PREFILED not later than 5:00 p.m., Friday, March 2. After this time, a member may introduce no more than five additional bills not later than 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 3.
Effective Date of Acts: August 1, 2012, unless bill otherwise specifically provides.
