Joint Select Committee on Property Tax Relief Reviews Proposals

On Monday, May 21, 2007, the Joint Select Committee on Property Tax Relief and Reform (“Committee”) met in Tallahassee, Florida for the purpose of reviewing potential property tax relief proposals.

Representative Dean Cannon (R-Winter Park) and Senator Mike Haridopolos (R-Melbourne) co-chair the Committee.

Don Langston, Economist for the House Policy and Budget Council, explained the different proposals on tax relief being considered.

Further, Richard Herring, Special Counsel to the Senate President, answered several questions from the Committee members regarding potential Constitutional problems.

The Committee adjourned without taking any action on a particular proposal.  Its next scheduled meeting is June 4, 2007.

The Special Session focusing on property tax relief is scheduled to begin on June 12, 2007.
