The Joint Select Committee on Property Tax Relief and Reform will meet on Monday, June 11, 2007Â from 9 a.m. to noon, one day before the start of the June, 2007 Special Session

The most recent tax relief proposal is partially based on a rollback of property tax rates calculated on previous tax increases. Florida voters would then be asked to change the State Constitution and approve the second phase of the plan–increasing the amount of homestead exemption–in a special election on January 29, 2008, the same day as Florida’s presidential primary election.Â
However, the constitutional amendment phase of the plan first would have to pass the Florida Legislature by a three-fourths vote of both chambers in order to make the Jan. 29, 2008Â ballot.

Under the heading of his “100 Ideas” program, Florida House of Representatives Speaker Marco Rubio wrote a letter to supporters that includes an outline of the plan.
House Majority Leader Marty Bowen also issued an overview of the $31 billion plan, entitled “Bringing Affordability Back.”
