Joint Legislative Auditing Committee Reviews Citizens’ 2009 Auditor General’s Report

Mar 11, 2009

On March 9, 2009, a representative from Citizens Property Insurance Corporation (“Citizens”) Auditor General’s office presented its 2009 Report to the Florida Joint Legislative Auditing Committee (“JLAC”).  The Report, which included information on a variety of Citizens internal procedures and finances, can be viewed by clicking here.

Of particular interest, Senator Andy Gardiner (R-Orlando) requested that Chairman Alex Diaz de la Portilla (R-Miami) call Citizens before the JLAC to discuss various aspects of Citizens’ finances, including, but not limited to, Citizens’ ability to pay claims without using its assessment authority.  Senator Gardiner stated that he was particularly interested in this because of past use of taxpayer money to reduce Citizens’ assessments.  Chairman Diaz de la Portilla agreed to put Citizens on the agenda for the JLAC’s next scheduled meeting on March 16.
