Insurance-Related Legislative Meetings
The 2008 Regular Florida Legislative Session begins Tuesday, March 4, 2008.

2008 Regular Legislative Session Dates to Remember:
- March 4, 2008 Regular Session convenes March 4, 2008. Deadline for filing bills for introduction is noon.
- April 22, 2008 50th day–last day for regularly-scheduled committee meetings
- May 2, 2008 60th day–last day of Regular Session

- The Senate Banking and Insurance Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 from 2:15-4:30 p.m. in Room 412 of the Knott Building at the Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida. The following bills will be discussed:
- SB 0164 Relating to Insurance/Mental & Substance-related Disorders
- SB 0644 Relating to My Safe Florida Home Program/Grant Eligibility. A proposed committee substitute is expected to be filed prior to the deadline for this amendment.
- SB 0656 Relating to Judicial and Execution Sales of Property
- SB 0818 Relating to Financial Services
- SB 0966 Relating to Automated Teller Machine Transactions
- SB 1078 Relating to Personal Property Title Insurance

- The House Insurance Committee will hold a meeting on Thursday, March 6, 2008 from 1-4 p.m. in Morris Hall, at the Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida. There is no agenda for this meeting published at this time.

Insurance Regulatory Meetings

- The Louisiana Department of Insurance (“Department”) will hold a Legislative Preview meeting on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 from 10-12 p.m. at the Department offices. This meeting will be accessible via Webcast. Items to be discussed include formal review of the Department’s legislative package for the 2008 Regular Legislative Session. To view complete details, click here.

- The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation will hold a public rate hearing on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at the Lakeland City Commission Chambers (City Hall, 228 South Massachusetts Avenue, Lakeland, Florida). American Federation Insurance Company, Foremost Property and Casualty Insurance Company, Foremost Insurance Company, and Foremost Signature Insurance Company have requested rate increases for their mobile homeowners’ programs. The companies have requested average statewide rate increases of 72.9%, 14.4%, 22.9%, and 31.5%, respectively. The proposed rate increases would be effective March 1, 2008, for new and renewal business. The requested rate increases are not uniform and some areas are subject to higher rate increases.
