Today’s unanimous House passage of the “Glitch Bill” (HB 7077) highlighted an active day in the Florida Legislature for insurance-related issues.Â

HB 1381 by Representative Richter relating to Branch Insurance Agencies passed the House 117-0. The bill authorizes certain agencies designated as branch office to file application for registration in lieu of licensure; provides exemption from required written examination to certain applicants for licensure as claims adjuster; authorizes certain licensed agents to be agent in charge of branch locations under certain circumstances; revises requirements for identification of insurers, agents, & insurance contracts.

HB 359 by Representative Kriseman relating to Motor Vehicle Financial Responsibility passed the House 117-0. The bill requires proof of increased financial responsibility for bodily injury or death caused by owners or operators found guilty of, or who entered plea of guilty or nolo contendere to, regardless of adjudication of guilt, DUI offense or who had license or driving privilege revoked or suspended under specified provision; provides additional cross-references concerning motor vehicle security.

HB 1473 by Representative Brown relating to Prohibited Free Insurance Practices was on the agenda, but not considered. It remains on the House Special Order Calendar. The bill provides additional exclusion from prohibition against free insurance for certain communications equipment; provides definition.
