House Releases PIP Reform Bill

Aug 21, 2007

The Florida House of Representatives today released a bill sponsored by State Representative Ellyn Bogdanoff relating to Personal Injury Protection (“PIP”) Reform.  Essentially, the bill begins the process of negotiation between the House and Senate on the no-fault/PIP issue prior to the statute’s October 1, 2007 sunset.

The 30-page bill caps attorneys’ fees on PIP lawsuits and limits the amount of money medical providers can bill insurers for non-emergency care.

The proposal also provides increased capacity to the Florida attorney general to prosecute insurers who deny claims.

Attached is a copy of the bill, a document issued by the House Majority Whip’s Office containing talking points on the proposal, and a transmittal letter to House Members from Representative Bogdanoff.
