House Passes 2082 Relating to Insurance Licensure

The Senate reconsidered, amended and passed CS/CS SB 1st Eng. 2082 on May 2, 2008 with two amendments (593426, 553694) by a vote of 40 Yeas / 0 Nays);
The bill was then returned to the House for reconsideration. The House concurred with the Senate amendments and also adopted two amendments (593426, 553694) and passed the bill unanimously (119 Yeas / 0 Nays)
CS/CS SB 1st Eng. 2082 will now be sent to the Governor for approval.
Summary
CS/CS SB 1st Eng. 2082 General Insurance requires that an applicant for licensure as an insurance agent, customer representative, adjuster, service representative, managing general agent, or reinsurance intermediary provide to the Department of Financial Services his or her home and office telephone numbers and e-mail address. Revises the elements of the offense known as “churning” to include direct or indirect purchases made for the purpose of earning fees or commissions, etc. Effective date: January 1, 2009.Â
