Governor: State Farm Subpoena An Important Protection Measure

Jan 29, 2009

Governor Charlie Crist issued the following statement today, January 29, 2009 regarding the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation’s subpoena of State Farm

“I support (Florida Insurance) Commissioner McCarty using the tools available to ensure State Farm’s withdrawal from our insurance market does not adversely impact progress and efforts in our state to provide access to affordable property insurance for Florida’s homeowners. Today’s action by Commissioner McCarty is an important step in protecting State Farm’s more than one million policyholders, the individual State Farm agents and their employees.

“I urge impacted policyholders to visit www.ShopandCompareRates.com to shop for affordable rates available in their area. Since 2007, approximately 40 new insurance companies now provide competitive options for Florida’s homeowners.”
