Governor Signs SB 4D Relating to Ad Valorem Taxation

Governor Charlie Crist today signed into law Senate Bill 4D, a General Bill sponsored by Senator Jeff Atwater and co-introduced by Senators Mike Fasano, Victor Crist and Gwen Margolis.  The bill became effective today, November 13, 2007.

SB 4D authorizes the Florida Department of Revenue to  adopt certain emergency rules and provides for the assessment of homestead property following a change of ownership based on the difference between just value and the assessed value of the immediate prior homestead. The bill increases the amount of the exemption provided for homestead property and provides for an additional exemption for levies other than school district levies.
