Governor Signs Insurance Bills, Budget

Governor Charlie Crist today, June 11, 2008 signed four insurance-related bills into law:

  • 1st Eng. HB 5043: Relating to Financial Services, sponsored by Representative Ron Reagan (revises the required percentages of funds collected pursuant to certain taxes on surplus lines premiums and related interest which are deposited into the Insurance Regulatory Trust Fund and the General Revenue Fund)
  • HB 461: Relating to Health Flex Plans, sponsored by State Representative Jimmy Patronis
  • CS/HB 535: Relating to Health Insurance, sponsored by State Representative Larry Cretul
  • 1st Eng. HB 5045: Relating to Workers’ Compensation Medical Services and Supplies, sponsored by State Representative Ron Reagan

Governor Crist vetoed 3rd Eng. CS/HB 5057 Relating to the Insurance Capital Build-Up Incentive Program. 

A memorandum issued today by Governor Crist detailing why he chose to veto HB 5057 is attached for your review.

Also attached are memoranda from the Governor with formal approvals for all bills signed today into law.

 

Budget

Governor Crist also signed Florida’s $66 billion 2008-2009 budget today. 

Three budget items were vetoed:

1. $300,000 for the Harris Chain of Lakes Restoration
2. $840,000 for Exponica International
3. $250 million that would have been taken from Citizens’ Property Insurance Corporation’s budget to fund a second year of the Insurance Capital Build-Up Incentive Program
