Gov. Scott orders probe on soured economic deal
By The Associated Press
Gov. Rick Scott is ordering a probe into the state’s decision to award millions in economic incentives to a company that is now closing its Florida facility.
Scott on Monday asked his inspector general to review the process used to award money to help bring Digital Domain Media Group to Port St. Lucie.
The company announced last week it was closing the facility and laying off about 280 workers.
Scott said he wants to be assured that the process used to award incentives in 2009 is not the same process utilized now.
Digital Domain has spent the past few years building a new animation studio that was backed by millions in incentives from the city and the state, including $20 million from one of the state’s main economic incentive funds.
