Florida Governor Rick Scott announced the appointment of Bette Brown to Citizens Property Insurance Corporation’s Board of Governors today, March 24, 2014. She fills a vacant seat and was appointed for a term beginning March 24, 2014 and ending July 31, 2014.
Ms. Brown, of Tavernier, age 57, is the chief credit officer for the Community Bank of Florida. She has more than 35 years of real estate lending and commercial banking experience.
Born in Ohio, Ms. Brown graduated from Stetson University before beginning her banking career. She expanded her financial services knowledge at the Florida School of Banking and later attended the advanced level Stonier Graduate School of Banking.
Her extensive local business and community involvement has earned her many accolades over the years, including the 2011 Florida Keys Board of Realtors Affiliate of the Year Award, as well as “Woman of the Year” for five consecutive years as part of the Upper Keys People’s Choice Awards.
She is a Board member of the Key Largo Preservation Foundation, an executive committee member of the Mariners Hospital Operating Board and president elect for the Upper Keys Rotary Club. She is also a Board member of the Florida Bankers Association Government Relations Committee and Bank PAC.
She enjoys long distance road biking, as well as actively working and fundraising for her women and children’s health clinic in Haiti.
