Governor Crist Signs Revised 2008-2009 Florida Budget

Florida Governor Charlie Crist signed the Revised 2008-2009 Florida Budget passed during the Special Legislative Session today, January 27, 2009.
In signing the Budget, Governor Crist restored $90.9 million to the General Revenue Fund in the following areas:
- Education
- Human Services
- Criminal Justice and Corrections
- Natural Resources/Environment/Growth Management/Transportation
- General Government

Memorandum Regarding Revised 2008-2009 Budget
Governor Charlie Crist today signed the revised 2008-09 budget passed during a special legislative session earlier this month. Governor Crist also exercised his authority to veto line-item budget items, restoring $90.9 million in general revenue funding to preserve Florida’s investment in public safety, K-12 classrooms and teachers, and critical services to vulnerable children, elders, and persons with disabilities, as well as the Florida Forever land conservation program, economic development and the Florida National Guard. With the Governor’s vetoes, the total solutions to balance the current-year budget amount to $2.5 billion.
“I appreciate the difficult work of the Legislature to reduce the current year’s budget during these historically challenging economic times,” Governor Crist said. “However, I believe we can tighten our belts while still maintaining our investment in priority areas. In this way, we can ensure the safety and security of our people and visitors to our state.”
