Governor Crist Requests Federal Agriculture Disaster Declaration For 11 Florida Counties

Jun 22, 2009

Citing extensive damage to specific crops, Florida Governor Charlie Crist sent a letter to United States Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack on June 19 requesting a federal agricultural disaster declaration for 11 Florida counties, including Columbia, Flagler, Hardee, Henry, Highlands, Manatee, Marion, Polk, Putnam, St. Johns, and Union.

Between May 10 and June 5, parts of Central and North Florida were inundated by rain and flooding.  In the eight weeks prior to that, some areas were also subject to drought conditions.  The crop losses were corroborated by Florida Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services Charlie Bronson.

Governor Crist’s letter to Secretary Vilsack is attached.
