Governor Crist Receives Insurance-Related Bills for Consideration by June 1

After their passage by the Florida Legislature, various insurance-related bills were sent to Governor Crist today, May 17, 2010.  The Governor has until June 1, 2010 to sign, veto or let these bills become law without his signature.

HB 545 relating to Residential Property Sales

HB 545 repeals a provision requiring disclosures of residential property windstorm mitigation ratings to purchasers in wind-borne debris regions.  Effective Date: Upon becoming law.

 

HB 663 relating to Building Safety

HB 663 revises provisions of law relating to elevator safety, home inspection services, mold assessment and remediation and building code inspections and enforcement; provides for effect of expired, lapsed, non-renewed or revoked building permit; revises Florida Building Commission authority; exempts specified structures from Florida Building Code requirements.  Effective date:  July 1, 2010

 

HB 7121 relating to Open Government Sunset Review/Hurricane Loss and Exposure Data

HB 7121 saves exemption of public records requirements from scheduled repeal under the Open Government Sunset Review Act of specified reports of hurricane loss data and associated exposure data that are specific to a particular insurance company; requires specified Florida International University Center to publish an annual report summarizing loss data and associated exposure data collected from residential property insurers and licensed rating and advisory organizations.  Effective Date: October 1, 2010

 

HB 7217 relating to Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund Emergency Assessments

HB 7217 delays repeal of exemption from specified emergency assessments provided for medical malpractice insurance premiums and subjection of such premiums to emergency assessments by the Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund.  Effective date:  Upon becoming law.
