Governor Bush Appoints Property and Casualty Insurance Reform Committee Members 7/28/06

Yesterday Governor Bush appointed the members of the Property and Casualty Insurance Reform Committee, which is a recently created committee formed to make recommendations regarding property insurance reform to the Florida Legislature and Governor.

Lieutenant Governor Toni Jennings will chair the committee, and the remaining committee members are from various aspects of the business community, although none of the members are insurance industry representatives. The committee is mainly comprised of members of the real estate and banking industry, as well has several individuals involved in construction in coastal areas. We anticipate that a “technical advisory committee” will be appointed to serve as a resource for the committee members as well, and this “technical advisory committee” will contain insurance experts.

The Committee will evaluate various proposals intended to make property insurance more available and affordable in Florida.

� Frank Kowalski – CEO of a real estate firm located in Palmetto Bay, Florida

� Sandy MacKinnon – CEO of a forklift company located in Tampa, Florida

� Bill Montford – CEO of the Florida Association of District School Superintendent

� State Representative Dennis Ross (R – Lakeland)

� Larry Schultz – Mayor of Rockledge, Florida

� Linda Shelley – Attorney with Fowler, White, Boggs & Banker

� Barbara Weese – AARP National Legislative Council

� Manuel de Zarraga – Managing director of a mortgage brokerage firm located in Coral Gables, Florida
