FPCA Homeowners Division: Legislative Update on Omnibus Property Bills

FPCA Homeowners Division Members:
This is to advise you of recent developments in the Florida Legislative Session. At this time, it appears that the Senate omnibus property insurance bill, SB 408, will be heard again next week in the Senate Budget Committee. A strategy to address the sinkhole “tail” issue is still developing.
Further, the House Insurance & Banking subcommittee is expected to consider HB 803 next week. Amendments to conform HB 803 to SB 408 will be filed, with the exception of the two hostile amendments to SB 408 that were adopted in the Senate Budget committee meeting this week relating to certification and use and file. Additional technical amendments also are expected to be filed.
Finally, Representative Wood has advised that he prefers to address the statute of limitations and sinkhole “tail” issues in a future committee.
