FPCA Automobile Division: Special Meeting–Thursday, April 9 at 4:00 p.m.

A special meeting of the FPCA Automobile Division will be held on Thursday, April 9, at 4:00 p.m. to discuss pending legislation, and in particular, Senate Bill 1634.

SB 1634 relating to Motor Vehicle/Financial Responsibility by State Senator Dan Gelber (D-Miami Beach)

SB 1634 was passed with some debate by the Senate Committee on Transportation on Monday, April 6, by a vote of 6Y–1N. 

The bill would require that persons found guilty of, or who enter a guilty or nolo contendere plea to a felony traffic offense, or persons who are subject to a mandatory revocation of his or her driving privilege on or after October 1, 2009, to demonstrate financial responsibility to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles for bodily injury of others in the amount of $100,000 per individual, $300,000 per vehicle and $50,000 for property damage.

SB 1634 next will proceed to the Senate Committee on Banking and Insurance and the Senate Committee on Transportation and Economic Development.
